Los Angeles, CA — Chaos erupted downtown as National Guard troops deployed under former President Donald Trump’s emergency orders clashed with protesters opposing widespread ICE raids and mass deportations.

Californian officials, including Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass, condemned the federal response as “purposefully inflammatory” and “authoritarian,” warning the deployment bypassed state authority

At several sites—most notably near the Metropolitan Detention Center and in Paramount—protesters gathered to challenge the mass deportations. National Guard and federal law enforcement used tear gas, flash-bang grenades, pepper balls, and smoke canisters to disperse crowds, prompting retreat

Eyewitnesses and live footage confirm:

National Guard members struck approaching protesters with batons and launched tear gas canisters, forcing crowds to scatter in panic. What began as a peaceful demonstration quickly turned into a scene of violence and confusion.

Here’s what we know:

• 300+ Guard troops were deployed across three locations in LA as of this morning, with reports confirming they are under Trump’s federalized command — not state orders.

• Protesters were not armed. Many held signs denouncing ICE tactics and the use of military force against civilians.

• Journalists at the scene report being shoved, detained, or forced to flee after gas canisters were deployed nearby.

• Simultaneously, ICE raids targeted immigrant communities across California, particularly in LA County, detaining dozens in early morning sweeps.

This isn’t law enforcement.

This is authoritarian violence.

  • Peaceful protesters were assaulted.

  • Immigrant families torn apart.

  • Journalists under fire.

  • Military force used against civilians.

This is what authoritarianism looks like.

When dissent is met with gas and batons…

When immigrants are hunted while the cameras roll…

When the National Guard follows the orders of a man no longer in office…

It’s not about safety. It’s about power.

Trump Responds: “Liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion”

As videos of injured protesters and terrified families go viral, Donald Trump doubled down—posting a chilling statement on Truth Social that frames LA as a war zone and immigrants as enemies of the state.

In his words:

“A once great American City, Los Angeles, has been invaded and occupied by Illegal Aliens and Criminals. Now violent, insurrectionist mobs are swarming and attacking our Federal Agents to try and stop our deportation operations — But these lawless riots only strengthen our resolve. I am directing Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi, in coordination with all other relevant Departments and Agencies, to take all such action necessary to liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion, and put an end to these Migrant riots. Order will be restored, the Illegals will be expelled, and Los Angeles will be set free.”

He also added that he will not rule out invoking the Insurrection Act.

Let that sink in: a president no longer in power is issuing martial orders to “liberate” an American city from its own people.

This isn’t rhetoric—it’s a roadmap to fascism.

The Reality on the Ground:

• The protesters Trump calls “insurrectionists”? Nurses, students, clergy, parents.

• The “migrant riots”? Crowds mourning ICE raids, not throwing punches.

• The “liberation”? Gas, grenades, and guard units charged through neighborhoods with zip ties and rifles.

This Is Bigger Than LA

It’s not just about ICE.

It’s about the weaponization of military force against dissent.

It’s about calling immigrants an “invasion” to justify violence.

It’s about criminalizing protest and normalizing autocracy.
