Let me be as clear as I can: Louisiana lawmakers had a chance — a single, human, moral chance — to carve out the smallest exception in their abortion ban. One that would allow children under 17, literal children, to terminate a pregnancy if that pregnancy was the result of being molested.

And what did they do?

They buried it. It didn’t even make it out of committee.

Not only was the amendment rejected — a Democratic woman, Rep. Patricia Moore, voted no. A woman who openly said her mother was a rape victim. A woman who cited her personal experience and then still chose to deny other girls the choice her mother didn’t have.

Her reasoning?

“God can make good out of a bad thing.”

She said this in response to a 9-year-old in her district who is pregnant from rape.

Let me run that back for you:

A 9-year-old child. Raped. Pregnant. And this elected official’s response is divine optimism.

Where’s the attacker? What’s being done to him?

Oh, right. Probably nothing — because in America, 97% of rapists walk free. But somehow, a traumatized child is supposed to carry a pregnancy to term — and then raise that child? While her rapist gets to live unbothered, unpunished?

Let’s not pretend this is about morality.

Let’s not pretend this is about faith.

Rep. Moore claims to be deeply religious. But you know what’s not Christian?

Protecting predators.

Sacrificing victims.

Enabling generational trauma under the banner of “God’s will.”

Not only is this a violation of church and state. It’s vile.

That so-called “pro-life” stance.

Pro-life for who?

Because these same lawmakers — the ones who cry over fetuses — are the first to vote against feeding, housing, and educating the actual children born into poverty and abuse.

They don’t care about the child.

They care about control.

Louisiana has made zero proposals to strengthen sentences for rapists.

Zero increases in funding for victim services.

Zero accountability for systems that allow predators to slip through cracks and keep coming back.

But a 9-year-old? They’ll punish her. Force her into labor. Rip her childhood away. Because someone wants to play judge in God’s name.

And if you’re reading this and still think your vote doesn’t matter — I need you to sit with this.Sit with a state where a child’s rape is less important than a politician’s platform.

This is what silence defends. This is what complacency looks like.

You don’t have to be religious to see what’s wrong here.

You just have to be human.
